The Beetroot Tree garden, designed by Julian Robinson, illustrates how materials can be used to create a contemporary and yet timeless garden.

The garden was designed for two main uses: as a family garden for relaxing and children's games, including a secret tunnel and den for imaginative play; and for use as an external exhibition space for the gallery having good accessible pathways for everyone to experience the garden.

The space contains many features with clean simple lines. Materials for the hard landscaping were either existing on site or have been obtained from reclamation yards and other properties and gardens where they were no longer required. The garden illustrates how imaginative use of such materials can create an interesting and attractive garden.

Where possible trees and shrubs have been left in their original positions, others have been moved to new locations within the garden. New introductions have been obtained from a wide variety of sources.

Enjoy the garden during your visit wandering through the young but developing landscape or sit and listen to the murmuring stream as it runs to the pool.

Or come to one of our gardening workshops.
