A message from Alysn
The Future of the Beetroot Tree Gallery for Contemporary Art.

From before the time that the Beetroot Tree opened, I have also been a practicing artist, showing work at galleries and shows, writing books and articles and tutoring groups around the UK. The experience and commitment of the team at the Beetroot Tree enable me to balance these two careers.

My family are now at a point where there are other things which we want to achieve in our lives which unfortunately are not possible whilst based in the UK. Therefore, after what you might imagine have been long discussions and considerations, we have chosen to place the Beetroot Tree and the attached house which has been the family home, for sale.

We are therefore seeking a buyer who will appreciate the gallery as it is, but who also may have new ideas and be able to take it even further than we have.
There are, I am sure, still many developments and ideas which can be put into practice and achieve more growth in the future.

In the mean time, I would like to assure all artists, tutors and visitors that the gallery will continue in its present form. I will not be moving forward with my ‘next stage’ until the Beetroot Tree is in safe hands for its future.

The story so far ...

In August 1999 ‘The Beetroot Tree’ opened its doors for the first time.
The original concept was a studio for myself, and other artists and a showcase for contemporary art and designer crafts.

Over the last 12 years the Beetroot Tree has developed and has grown steadily into the thriving, friendly, stimulating place that it is today. Visitors and buyers are drawn from across the UK and surprisingly often from further afield. All have in common a love of art and craft and interesting places.
Many visitors are also makers themselves and choose from our art materials and attend classes to develop skills.
As the café has grown we also have enjoyed the company of visitors who wish a comfortable sit down and a fair-trade coffee, homemade cake or a lunch.
Over the years we have hosted corporate days, parties and celebrations, festivals and more.

We recently launched the new website which allows visitors to keep in touch, see the exhibitions if they are not able to visit, to book events, to buy art materials and artworks which immeasurably widens our audience.

As we have grown, a team of people who all have a keen interest in art (many being creative artists or makers themselves), who are knowledgeable, helpful and enthusiastic have joined me. This has formed a wider and richer place to appreciate art, food and creativity.
Thank you to the many of you who let me know how much you have been enjoyed both your visit and the help and company of our team.

The core essence and ‘raison d’être’ for developing a space as the Beetroot Tree has never, for me, changed – and for me the key is to be showing a wide range of contemporary art, most for sale, but also some which is experiential and challenging.

Everything we exhibit is made by named artists, many of whom we know personally. It is unfailingly a great pleasure to sell a piece of art knowing that we are helping with an income for the artist at the same time as enhancing someone’s life.

At this point and despite the current economic worries in Europe and beyond, the Beetroot Tree it is growing strongly and steadily.
It has a well deserved reputation for interesting and unique art, for a special quality of atmosphere and lots more.
