Jewellery evening classes

Evening classes beginning Fri 15 Jan 6.30 pm

Practical workshops with Helen Domleo, 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm, £15 per week. Book in four week blocks. Helen will demonstrate and guide you through metal and jewellery making techniques to enable you to develop and refine your own practice.

Make a Silver Ring
With Kate Bajic
Friday 22 Jan 2010 - £55 + materials at cost
All the Beetroot Tree staff did this course in 2009 and it was brilliant! Design up to 3 different rings in a day. Kate will take you through the process of producing your ring from start to finish. See also Kate's other workshops in jewellery making. FULL - See 24th April for next pendant session!

Machine Embroidery for Starters

Forget about sewing cushions and curtains -the sewing machine is a great tool for creative expression. on this day you will be guided in understanding what your machine can do, the effects you can create and you will finish with your own artwork using the ideas learnt duing the day. You will need a sewing machine which is able to either 'drop the feed' or which has a darning plate, and a 'darning foot' suitable for your machine.

Printmaking - Collagraphs

Prepare to have lots of fun at this workshop experimenting with different collagraph techniques. In the morning you will scratch, tear, build up or cut into the surface of a card plate. Over lunch your plate will be left to dry. Then you will learn how to create your own collagraph prints from your plate(s) using coloured inks and papers. You will go away with a least one printing plate that can be reprinted again and again., as well as at least two of your very own original prints that can be made into cards for someone special or framed for your wall.

Some of you had a little taster of Laura's workshop at Arts & Gardens 2009. She is now back for the full day experience! During this course you will learn how to produce different shapes to use in the making of jewellery including earings, bracelets and necklaces.

Elemental Layers

Use silk, linen and flax fibres to create a textured surface, further developed using felt and stitch (hand and/or machine) then treated with layers of paint, patina, verdigris and gilding to create a surface reminiscent of ancient bas relief carving, or natural weathered and gnarled features

Precious Metal Clay

Precious metal clay is made up of tiny fine silver particles combines with a non toxic binder and water. Once the piece is formed dried and fired what's left is a piece of fine silver jewellery which can be hallmarked at any Assay Office as 99.9% Fine Silver, the purest form of silver available! You will be making a minimum of two pieces of jewellery which you will be able to take home on the day and will surprise yourself with what you have achieved in just a few hours!

Phiona creates interactive book sculptures and intriguing jewellery using traditional needlework techniques. In this workshop you will learn to sculpt with paper to produce exquisite 3D forms that can be both highly contemporary and infused with sentiment and memory.

Jewellery - Texturing & Soldering with Metals

This workshop offers the opportunity to make some earrings and a pendant or brooch. Pupils are encouraged to create their own designs which will develop while learning about techniques that can be used to pattern the surface of the metal. We will look at how to melt silver and use other pieces of metal in your jewellery.

If we are unable to run the workshop your deposit and payment will be refunded.
To cancel your booking please provide three weeks notice to ensure a refund (not including deposit). Less then 3 weeks notice will result in full payment being deducted.
